The coffee table can be a wonderful space to ignite your own personal style. It is a place to keep (and hopefully hide) all those complicated remotes. It is also a space to create flair and place your favorite objects such as books, boxes, vases, sentimental knick-knacks, and collectibles. I have chosen several different examples of coffee table types and creative ways to style them in your own interiors.
I love the above beautiful room, which my partner and I created while we owned our business, H & H Interiors. The space is a formal living room without a television, so no need for remote control storage. We purposely chose this breathtaking, antique glass-top table so that it would reflect the exquisite rug. We were also looking for something light and airy since many of the other case goods in the room had darker, heavier wood finishes. We simply chose some aged architectural finials from the owners’ collection and a beautiful tray with lovely birds for the tabletop. We finished with a vase of fresh flowers which always cheers up a room!
I adore the shape and style of this gorgeous coffee table. My Happy Day has styled it so beautifully with her favorite design books and a gorgeous lucite and gold tray. A sweet bouquet of flowers and some favorite accessories are a stylish finishing touch to this ornate piece.
This lucite coffee table is whimsical and fun. It also has room underneath to store these wonderful rolling ottomans. The top has a beautiful balance of books, a gorgeous orange lacquered box, and a vintage magnifying glass. I love the idea of having a pretty box to hide all the remote controls and these days, we all have multiple remotes to hide.
A coffee table with a glass top is an engaging way to display a large number of accessories and books. Visually, it doesn’t take up as much space. Also, as a guest, it is easy to see all the books available to read as guests always enjoy a great coffee table book to devour!
Mirrored furniture pieces are incredibly enchanting. I love how this table reflects the cheerful green and cream color scheme of the room. Jackson completes the look with her favorite coffee table books, a small bowl of green limes, and fresh flowers in the same green hue. It is a simple, stylish vignette with a glamorous vibe.
Tobi Fairley dresses this handsome table with dozens of her favorite coffee table books. Why not have all your favorites to grab at any time? I love how the books are tucked into every nook and cranny of the table giving the room an old-fashioned English bookstore feel.
This room by Mark Kennemer is simply fabulous. The custom table is immense but doesn’t up too much visual space with the open X-style bottom. The table is styled in a clean, fresh way with a gorgeous planter with sumptuous orchards. The airy glass candle holders are so attractive and sleek. What a way to finish the look with a handsome modern box for storage.
Go big or go home, or at least Richard Tubb Interiors does so with this exciting vignette. I love how everything centers around this gorgeous round coffee table. The beautiful tall vase may not be practical for everyday use but would be perfect to place for a gathering or party. It has such a festive look. All of the objects on the table are glass or creamy whites that blend perfectly with the rest of this serene room setting.
River Spencer placed a large shell-shaped bowl on this substantial glass coffee table. I love the beautiful flowers placed in the piece that can be changed up seasonally. I can just envision Christmas greenery and red roses there for the holidays. She placed books very organizationally around the bottom shelf, with a gorgeous yet whimsical box in the center. The light, airy feeling of the tablescape fits perfectly in the peaceful space.
An ottoman can also serve as a coffee table by just adding a large tray. It can be the perfect setting for a spot of tea and a good book, as Heather Scott Homes have shown us above this charming sitting room.
I hope these ideas help you as you create your coffee table vignettes. Please leave some examples of your styling and maybe we will do a part two.
