Benjamin Moore officially named its “Color of the Year” Blue Nova describing the hue as “Violet and blue coming together in this elevated, sumptuous hue.” According to House Beautiful, it’s described as a blend of blue with violet, an evocative tone that brings to mind the celestial world beyond and calls on us to explore undiscovered depths. The hints of red in the violet undertones mean Blue Nova is not a cold feeling, as sometimes is the case with blue.”
Blue Nova has an LRV of 16.98, deeply saturated with little light reflection. I would love to see Blue Nova on accent walls, powder rooms, studies, and bedrooms. Blue Nova would also be a perfect backdrop for colorful artwork and collections.
Benjamin Moore suggests pairing Blue Nova with their company’s delicious colors including Paper White, Mount Saint Anne, Monterey White, or Quincy Tan.
I love how Blue Nova makes a perfect backdrop for this magical clay vase collection. It would make any collection “pop and sing” with this mystical hue as the background.
Blue Nova has a soothing feel that would make a great study backdrop. I love the above space created by Benjamin Moore. The entire study area is painted in the hue with just a few splashes of oranges and whites.
Blue Nova is the perfect, most soothing color for a bedroom. It has a serene feeling, making for the perfect retreat that would most assuredly bring about a relaxing night of sleep. Again, different shades of orange, including a breathtaking shade of deep orange, work perfectly against the blue. The BM Paper White ceiling is a wonderful counterpart to Blue Nova.
Hannah’s Happy Home utilized Blue Nova on the walls of this stunning bedroom makeover. The bright whites, creams, and neutrals are alluring with this celestial blue. The different shades of blue in the rug are delightful with the paint hue and the wood tons of the bedside tables are extremely handsome against the walls.
Blue Nova contrasts well with the salmon pink sofa and dark pink accessories. The two colors together are a glamorous pairing.
I created this concept board with delightful furniture and accessories that I think would be ravishing against the gorgeous blue. A large white sofa with burnt orange pillows anchors the room, flanked by glamorous silver mirrored side tables with glass-blown blue and orange lamps. I love the idea of modern orange chairs on the side with a jaw-dropping rug with different blue shades surrounded by a spectrum of orange colors. The mirrored silver table, charming sunburst mirror, and modern pendant chandelier complete this breathtaking room.
It is not surprising that Blue Nova was chosen as Benjamin Moore’s color of the year. The shade is stunning and versatile, pairing well with many different shades. It also works in almost all areas of the home. Have you used this paint in your home? Please share in the comments.
